"At the Lazarus Practice, I have created an environment carefully designed to overcome the widespread and complex problems associated with securing life-changing mental health support. Come and talk to us about how we can help.”
Dr. Ian Dodd is the visionary founder of The Lazarus Practice and a vocal advocate for workplace mental health reform. With a PhD in science and a reputation for solving complex challenges, Ian has held senior positions at some of the world’s most renowned and innovative firms.
In 2018, Ian joined Goldman Sachs, where he managed the global talent pipeline. It was in this high-pressure environment, however, that Ian experienced a devastating burnout, leading to severe and life-threatening depression. As he sought recovery within public and private mental health systems, deep systemic flaws became apparent. Through his own lived experience and countless conversations with others in similar situations, he realised that the existing system often fails those it’s meant to help.
Driven by this stark realisation, Ian undertook a comprehensive review of mental health literature, discovering that only 7 in 100 people achieve their mental health goals, with 3 in 100 actually being harmed by their attempts. The majority, disillusioned and disheartened, abandon their efforts altogether. Even more alarming was that many never returned to addressing their mental health, instead living diminished lives marked by ongoing suffering.
When Ian shared these findings with seasoned professionals across the mental health sector, their responses confirmed his concerns: “This looks about right,” some said, while others warned that the figures might be even worse. Confronted by this validation, Ian’s path shifted. Determined to transform the way mental health care is delivered, he set out to create something fundamentally different.
Recognising these challenges firsthand, Ian envisioned The Lazarus Practice as a beacon of hope, offering genuinely transformative support. A place where individuals can truly transform their lives. Ian’s goal is to address the pervasive issues within mental health care, ensuring that every client receives personalised, effective, and compassionate treatment. The practice is built on a foundation of rigorous scientific research, thoughtful integration of multimodal approaches, and a commitment to providing care that genuinely improves the lives of those it serves.
